The May meeting was brought to order by Ryan Hoss. A discussion of general business was conducted. Dave Gausman was our featured demonstrator, Dave's discussion was related to Chucking Methods. His first method was turning between centers. Shown here are a faceplate, and two chucks with different sized jaws.
There was lively discussion on the pro's and con's of the shape of the jaws and their grips. It seems that each type of jaw has a holding method that it works best for. For example, Phil states that the jaws on this chuck work better holding onto end grain vs side grain. Here Dave is preparing his blank for a tenon that the chuck will grip onto. |
