The demonstration for the March meeting was on Spindle reproduction. If you remember a while back, Ron Williams showed us how
to make a stool. Tonight, Ron showed us his use of a scaled drawing with detailed dimensions layed out on a scrap piece of lumber. He began with truing a centered spindle blank between
centers. Then using a calipers and parting tool, he starts at the widest dimension and down to size. Progressing to the next smaller sized bead or cove, he repeats this process with the parting
tool and calipers. Once all the primary dimensions are done, he uses a spindle gouge to begin turning the beads and coves of the spindle, once again, working from the larger dimensions to the
smaller one. Lastly, the tenons on the ends of the spindles were turned. |
