The November 9th meeting was called to order by Ron Williams. Business was discussed first. Phil Holtan asked for
approval for his demo at Acme Electric, Tool Crib of the North (November 17th and 18th - Fargo) be approved as a club event. It was motioned, carried, and approved by everyone in attendance. Ryan Hoss is heading up our latest sanding supplies purchase. Phil Holtan discussed the possiblity of starting a Lakes Area woodturners club, possibly east of the Detroit Lakes MN area. Contact Phil if you are interested in this opportunity. |
November's guest demonstrator is Darel Paulson. Darel is from MSUM, and photographs the art work for the university. Darel's goal is to show us how to set up a simple and inexpensive
light booth. Here he is setting up the framework of PVC pipe with a neutral grey paper for background. For a light diffuser,
a white garbage bag is used. This photo shows different examples of how the placement of your lights can have an effect on the way your subject is lit. Using chairs as stands, Darel clamps 150 watt halogen lights to them to aim at his subject. Placement of the lights has different effects on how the subject looks in a
photograph. Here Darel adjusts the lights and placement of the subject to obtain different looks. At the end of his presentation, Darel fielded lots of questions from members and was very helpful in clarifying the mysterious field of photography! |
