September 2006

September was the start of our new year.  Ron Williams discusses some business.  Phil Holtan will be doing some demos over the next few months, and he asked for approval to be sponsored as a club sanctioned event.  100% approval was granted for these demos:  Sept 15 and 16 at Acme Tool Crib in Duluth, Hostfest in Minot ND from October 11 to 14th, and Acme Tool Crib in Fargo on November 17th and 18th.

Phil was our member demonstrator for this meeting.  His topic for this month was door stops.  Door stops are a spindle turning operation.  Here Phil is holding a completed door stop near the piece he is turning.  This allows him to duplicate the shape.  Here Phil begins to shape the beads and coves of the handle end of the doorstop.  Phil turns both ends of the workpiece so that he ends up with 2 door stops.  The door stops are separated using a bandsaw by cutting the workpiece at a diagonal thru the unturned square center.  This photo of Phil shows our new safety shield that was built by Dave Gausman.

Here are some photos of the audience during the demonstration:

Many items were brought to the September Show and Tell.

Thanks to everyone who brought their work in to show everyone, and also thanks to Phil Holtan for September's demonstration!
