Welcome back! This is the start of the 5th year of the Minn-Dak Woodturners Association. Ron Williams
is our new President, a special thanks to Cliff Storsved who retired from the presidency after serving 2 terms. Ron started out with a discussion of the tentative schedule of events for this year. The schedule will be posted on our index page in the near future. Some business that was discussed
- Treasurer's report - Jim McTavish reported that the treasury balance is $2603.10 as of September 8th, 2005.
- Club officers met on August 30th to plan the calendar year's events
- The Minn-Dak Woodturners members were polled, and voted yes that we will sponsor a tree at
Meritcare's Festival of Wreaths this fall. The trees will be on display in mid November. We will need 40-50 ornaments, so
we need everyone to make an ornament
to donate. Almost everyone in attendance volunteered to donate an ornament. Meritcare will provide the tree and 700 lights. We will need help decorating the tree. Vern Nolting will be heading up this project.
Purchasing of two miniature cameras and a sound system to improve the viewing and sound at our demos. A motion was made to bring this to vote, and seconded. All 39 members in attendance
approved. Ron Williams will purchase the equipment and be reimbursed with club funds.
In addition to the regular Thursday evening meeting, we will try to provide one additional event each month. See the schedule for details.

Eddie Gudmundson
is our featured demonstrator for September. Ed turns a lot of miniature goblets, and he likes to turn captured rings on them using old dental tools. Here's a shot of Eddie starting his turning. He uses a parting tool to remove most of the waste wood. Dental picks are his tool of choice for these small captive rings. Here's a closeup of of the ring being turned. Here is the completed miniature goblet with a captured ring.If you have a high speed internet connection, here is a
short video. Just be warned, the file is 3.2 MEG in size, so downloading may take
some time. |
