History of Woodturning

Official business at the May meeting...

Ron Williams will be doing a demo at the Log Cabin in Moorhead in June: "Kids Take a Turn", a hands-on event for kids.  It will be June 14 from 6:00 - 9:00.  A vote was conducted and was it was approved as an official club sponsored event.

Elections were going to take place, but due to a lack of volunteers, the vote will be delayed until the August meeting.

Roger Johnson volunteered to be the host for the June 9th meeting at his  shop in Detroit Lakes.  A map to his place will be sent out with the June newsletter.

Special thanks to Dick Enstad for his talk on the history of Norwegian Woodturning.  Dick is from Eagan MN.  He gave a slide presentation on wood turning history. Turning originally started out as a 2 person task, the apprentice spun the lathe, and the master did the turning.  Here are some old tools that were brought along.  More tools, and some turned objects.  Here's a holder for beeswax candles.  Apparently, this kept mice and other critters out of the candles!  Here's a Norwegian style bowl that Dick turned.

Thanks for the info Dick!

Here's some photos of everyone who turned out for this meeting:
Group 01, group 02, group 03, and group 04.

We had lots of stuff for the monthly "instant gallery"
