The May 2005 meeting started out with elections for the 2004-2005 turning year.  The results are as follows:

President:                           Cliff Storsved
Vice President / Librarian: Duane Tougas
Secretary / Treasurer         Jim McTavish
and 4 comittee members:

  • Ryan Hoss
  • Ron Williams
  • Vern Nolting
  • Dave Gausman

The membership approved of Ron Williams request to have his and Phil Holtan's annual attendance at the Phelp's Mill craft show as a club sponsored event.  Be sure to head down to Phelp's Mill July 9th and 10th and wish them well!

Dave Gausman and Ron Williams lead the demonsration this month on sharpening your turning tools.  Here Dave demonstrates the bowl gouge jig we made on Tooday along with his Wolverine jig.  Here's a closeup of a roughing gouge being sharpened.  Another view

Here Ron and Dave are discussing the various grinds you can put on your bowl gouges.  Ron demonstrates that you don't need a special jig to put a side grind on a smaller bowl gouge.

Dave brought his Tormek sharpening system and shows how this slow speed grinder takes care of chisels.  Here's a closeup of the water puddle on the stone as the chisel is being sharpened.

At the one of the earlier meetings this spring, someone asked how to use the trapped hollowing system that we made on Toolday.  Here Ron is giving a quick explanation as Steve Olson looks on.

Vern Nolting brought his sharpening system.  He created this system mainly for his carving tools, but he adapted the system easlily for sharpening his turning tools with  the V-arm that we made on Toolday.  Here's another view of Vern and his sharpening system with Steve Olson looking on.
