Our February 2003 meeting was a presentation on bowl design by professional turner Bob Carls. Introductions were given by our club president Ron Williams.
Bob has a turning studio in Akin MN. Using some handouts, he discussed how the same general shape can be made into several different types of vessels. Samples of his work were used to demonstrate shape. Here is a lidded vessel that demonstrates how abrupt changes in shape can be used, in this case, carving was used to ease the abrupt changes.
We had a good sized group to learn from Bob.

Here is a larger bowlthat Bob turned and used an inflateable drum sander to create flutes on the outside of the bowl, and here is a basic shape bowl
turned from cottonwood.
Bob gave a great presentation, and we wish to thank him for coming to speak to us! |
