The meeting started out with discussions of future activities by Ron Williams and
Phil Holtan. Here are some turnings from our show and tell.
Our wood carving demonstration started out
with a short side trip a to a warehouse a few blocks away from Gene's shop to view a carving by Izo Becic. This in an incredible fireplace mantle he is working on. Click here for a
link to some images.
Vern Nolting had several examples of where he has carved on some of his turnings. He also brought his sharpening system along and explained its uses for sharpening not only carving tools, but also his lathe tools.
Howard Rasmussen is another carver. He gave us a demonstration of his carving techniques. One technique involves using adhesive to attach a pattern to the workpiece and carving the image.
Glenn Anderson does a lot of chipcarving on plates he has turned. He also attaches patterns to his piece to be carved or draws repeating geometric shapes that are easily chipcarved out of the workpiece.
